Project-based learning is designed to give students the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills through engaging projects that are focused on developing solutions to real-world problems. As parents and educators around the country look to expand virtual learning resources at their disposal, TCS’ Ignite My Future in School and the Ignite Innovation Student Challenge provide a one-stop destination for digital learning resources to support students, families and educators.
What Does it Take to Enter?
Students in grades 6-8 are invited to use their digital savvy to concept an original digital solution that answers the question “How can we improve the world?” in one of three categories: Health, Our Planet or Education. Once they develop their solution, students create and submit a one-to-two–minute video communicating how the digital solution will improve the world and the computational thinking strategies that were used to guide the solution. Solutions might include:
- Mobile Apps?
- Websites?
- Robots?
- Wearable Tech?
- Smart Home Devices?
It’s that easy! Students can find more inspiration by accessing the winner’s archive to meet finalists from previous years’ challenges who share what worked for them. They can also find idea starters and computational thinking strategies to help them get started.
The Power of Parents
The fact that many students are currently experiencing virtual learning for the first time does not have to be a barrier to continuing efforts to engage them in hands-on, real-world problem-solving. In fact, parents can play a significant role in encouraging students to think outside the box and cultivate student?innovation?at home. The resource toolkit for the Ignite Innovation Student Challenge includes a 4-week roadmap to help guide student submissions, as well as a step-by-step planning guide to aid students in thinking through their solutions.
And, if the incentive of solving a real-world problem is not quite enough, the grand prize for the Challenge is $10,000! Check out the complete challenge rules to learn more and visit Ignite My Future in School to enter! Don’t delay get started today – the deadline to enter is April 9th at 8PM ET!!
