It might be the mid-summer lull, but we had a jam packed learning event Monday evening and another 5 Ways to Use Discovery Education webinar is complete.  Each month we are highlighting DEN Community members as they share five unique strategies, tools, or resources for using Discovery Education in your classroom.

This month each of the ways highlighted the outstanding learning that occurred during the DEN Summer Institute (#DENSI2015). Dean shared that one of the most amazing parts of this experience is how it is community led, organized, and supported.  With that in mind, we encourage you to check out the community-built website and the educators that were spotlighted.

Matt Wright (@IAmMattWright) kicked things off and shared about his overall experience at DENSI2015.

Our Spotlight on Strategy was Four-to-One shared by Erica Phillips (@MsPhillipsHRSB) from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

You can find this strategy and others inside of Discovery Education by typing in the keywords “Spotlight on Strategies”.

Next I talked about the DENmazing Race, a fun team-building event that asked groups to race from station to station completing activities tied to many of Discovery Education’s free partner programs.IMG_4663

Together Counts is a program inspiring active and healthy living. The principle behind the program is Energy Balance, which means balancing the calories we consume with the calories we burn.  For this station, participants were asked to use the SplitLens2 app that we highlighted in May’s 5 Ways webinar and record a video that demonstrated Energy In and Energy Out.  Check out this fun example!

Lindsay Foster@BSGSCSFoster from Fort Worth, TX joined us to talk about another favorite event of the week, the DENovator Faire.  Our attendees gathered to share, resources, and hands-on activities for creating a Maker Space in schools.

DEN Star Ania Figueroa @learnandteach04 from Des Plaines, IL shared her excitement for learning how to use and modify Discovery Education videos using web tools like WeVideo.

Lastly Dean and I shared some favorite pictures from the event and highlighted how to continue learning with these educators via Twitter, Facebook, and Flickr.  Remember to find these tips, collaborative notes from workshops, and so much more on http://www.densi2015.com. Tagged! DENSI2015 group photo at the Jefferson Memorial on Monday. A wonderful group of people. #DENfamily #DENSI2015
